Circular Thinking Through Design
Circular thinking is not applied at the end of the process. It is considered from the very beginning through the way products are designed, engineered, upholstered and supported throughout their lifecycle.
Through The Loop program, we take a long-term approach to furniture stewardship, designing products to remain relevant, repairable, and adaptable for years beyond their first installation. Durability, responsible material selection, replaceable components, and renewal pathways all help reduce unnecessary replacement and support lower whole-life environmental impact.
The objective is simple: create beautifully made furniture that lasts longer, performs better over time and retains its value through multiple stages of use.
The Loop begins before a product reaches a project. Strong internal structures, carefully considered upholstery methods and timeless design principles help products remain useful long after workplace needs evolve.
Products are developed with:
- Long-life performance in mind
- Modular and replaceable components where possible
- Materials selected for durability and recyclability
- Upholstery designed for repair and renewal
- Responsible end-of-life material recovery pathways
This approach supports a more circular relationship between furniture, client and environment, helping products move through renewal, reuse, redistribution and recycling rather than premature disposal.
Circularity also means making better material choices.
Through The Loop and our wider sustainability strategy, Boss Design prioritises lower carbon materials, recycled content, material transparency and indoor air quality performance. From BioPUR® foam and FSC-certified timber to Declare labels, Intertek Clean Air certification and lifecycle carbon reporting, our products are developed to support healthier and more responsible interior environments.
This contributes towards wider sustainability and wellbeing goals across projects targeting LEED, WELL v2, SKA and BREEAM standards.
